How to choose a hairstyle for your wedding day

Written by KarenB

Let me start by saying... you can choose whatever you want, and whatever makes you feel your most beautiful. I will be sharing a few thoughts about choosing a hairstyle that suites you, as well as your dress.

Choose a hairstyle that will compliment your dress:

1. Boob Tube Dress

If you have a boob tube dress, there are 2 things that work really well... one, if you have your hair down or half up half down with a simple yet elegant chain around your neck.

Two, if you have your hair up, you should choose dramatic earrings.

What we are trying to avoid is that you have a "head separated from the dress", we need your dress and head to nicely flow into each other.

2. Lace over the shoulders:

When you have a lacy dress that covers your shoulders (even if it does not have sleeves), a simple (non-obvious) up-style is generally a good idea. A dress like this is usually the focal point.

What we are trying to avoid is everything being too busy.

Ask yourself the following questions:

  • Do I have enough hair for the style I want? If your answer is No, you will need to get hair extensions, but not cheap "china town" extensions, because they burn when heat is applied. You will have to get them from your salon.

Does the style I like on Pinterest suite me? Very often the Pinterest image makes everything look absolutely great, but in reality...it might not suite you as your hair is not the same length or style.

Looking at that image on Pinterest. What about the hair do you love most? Is it the way the fringe falls over her face? The softness of the hair taken back over the ear?
  • check
All the hair away from her face? The neatness of the bun? The messiness of the bun?
  • check
What do I feel most comfortable with?

When do you usually feel your most beautiful? Hair up or hair down? This will give you a good indication of what styles to look for.

These are only a few ideas to help you when choosing a hairstyle. Always remember... the BEST look for you, is the one that you are most comfortable in.

What I love most about being part of a bride’s wedding day, is knowing that I helped to make her day special. I also love that no two brides are ever the same, no look is ever created twice.
